Open Questions
Working backlog for what’s still unsettled. The canon docs state decisions; anything we haven’t settled lives here so it doesn’t get lost.
When a question is settled: write a Decision Record (DR) in decisions/, write the decision into the owning doc, delete it here, and check Ripple (bottom).
Most of the founding canon was settled in the build-out: the Warden model and the eight Charges; the Active/Dark/Retired status; elections, terms, recall, subsidiarity, federation thresholds, and amend-by-DR (governance); the membership bar, sponsorship, admission, and induction; the cast-out and revocation processes; the creed↔morals relationship; the Vigil, Confidence, Oath, and tokens (rituals); and the crest direction. What’s left is below.
Still open
- First Charges awarded. Who are the founding members, and what Charges do they actually take up? (Operational — the canon’s ready; this is doing it.)
- Artwork. The single watchfire sigil and a per-Charge emblem set under one visual grammar need a designer. The direction is set in crest.md; the art isn’t drawn.
- Tune the numbers with real membership. The founding thresholds are first-pass guesses to revisit once people are actually in: council terms (2yr / 2 consecutive), recall (petition by ⅓, simple-majority vote), cast-out (⅔ of council), moral amendment (65% of the tier beneath), sect split (~20 members).
- Backfill Decision Records? Most founding choices were settled in conversation, not via DRs. Decide whether to write DRs retroactively for the significant ones.
Ripple — when a decision lands, update these
- The owning doc body — the decision itself.
- This file — delete the settled question.
- README.md table — if a doc is added, removed, or changes scope.
- Neighbors, because the canon is interlinked:
- governance ↔ removal (process), membership (admission), charges (awarding), morals (amendment).
- creed ↔ morals ↔ removal move together — what’s sworn, what’s unbreakable, what loses you standing.
- crest ↔ charges (emblems/status) and membership (public page).
